Jingyu county sets Guinness Record for ice skating marathon


After nearly three hours of intense competition, 808 participants completed the ice skating marathon in Jingyu county of Baishan city in Northeast China's Jilin province on Tuesday, marking a new Guinness World Record for the largest ice skating race series.
At the opening ceremony of the first China Jilin Songhua River Ice Skating Marathon, 7,000 skaters gathered at the frozen Songhua River, clinching the record.
Wu Xiaohong, a certification officer from Guinness World Records, presented Yu Miao, the Party secretary of Jingyu county, with the certificate for the largest ice skating series race on the spot.
During the five-day event from Tuesday to Saturday, a series of ice and snow activities will be held, including ice skating marathons, running marathons, snow cycling marathons, ice dragon boat races, and cross-country skiing. Attendees can also enjoy snowmobile and snow rubber boat riding, kite flying, curling, and 100-meter ice sledding.
